Blackout: 3. Couples skate [[Shared Zero node communication space; 11 is looking at itself remotely]] / 27: Okay, she said to "[blue]carry on," so I'm going to start swapping it out. Let's stay linked. / 11: Sure. When are you going to start? / [[27 appears on-screen, with a laser cutter firing at the junction between 10 and 11]] / 10: Who are you talking to? / 11: 27. She's installing a new plasma-- / [[With a burst of plasma and shrapnel, the junction shatters]] / 11: --coupler. / 27: Oops. / 10 [irate]: Yeah, I'd better tell Zero.

I shut down the coupler group to prevent any more radiation from entering the ecosystem. / [[Various service drones scramble about on the plasma couplers, as 27's physical self drifts in orbit]] / 11: Unfortunately, the sudden ion pressure tripped the backflow traps on the other couplers' mag-bottles. / 27: Oh no... so that means...? / [[A view along the hub, swirls of dark plasma encroaching upon it]] / 11: I'm afraid so. The plasma injectors have completely shut down. / 11: The hub is going dark. / 10: Yep. Great job, you two.

She asked me to tell you of something v-- / Roku: You are new to this position, so allow me to inform you of the agreement we have with it. / Roku: Zero is allowed to OBSERVE these meetings, with the understanding that we are NOT TO BE INTERRUPTED. / Jodi [standing up]: I am aware of that, sir, but she told me to relay-- / Roku: ONE MORE WORD from you and you will be REMOVED from this PROCEEDING. / Jodi: I'M SORRY but it's just that the hub is-- / [[The lights go dark]] / Jodi: --failing.
Blackout: 8. Watching the world die [[An oracle and 9275 are walking through the park. There are a number of onlookers behind them, watching the hub's plasma trail deplete.]] / Oracle: Mistress? / Oracle: What happened? / 9275: I do not know. / 9275: Unity seems to have lost power. My sisters have gone silent. / [[The park-goers turn toward the oracle, looking angry]] / 9275: You must carry me. / Oracle: To where? / 9275: Anywhere but here.

Fly [[Juni grips onto the jet with all its might, the wind rushing past and pushing the goggles away from its face]] / Zero: Her favorite thing to do was to throw herself into the sky / [[Juni's jet has run out of fuel; they float]] / Zero: whereupon she would get as close to zero velocity as she could. / [[Juni and the jet drift further apart, as the jet's broken-off pieces drift away]]

Blackout: 14. Shining Council member: Oracle, you WILL tell us what is going on, NOW. / 496 [via Jodi]: I apologize for leaving this oracle to communicate on her own earlier. My attention was diverted, but I am now exclusively here. / 496: I am uncertain why the chamber has gone completely dark. Is there no emergency lighting? / [[496 looks at the council in the infrared]] / Roku: "Emergency lighting?" What purpose would that serve? / 496: It would use charge stored in case of emergency, such as a POWER OUTAGE. / Bennett: Power...outage? With all DUE respect, those are two words I have never heard together. / 496: Nobody planned for a widespread loss of electricity? / Roku: Of course not. How could that POSSIBLY happen? / 496: Perhaps like this.
Blackout: 15. Uncertain [[A scene showing the maintenance robots working to replace the coupler during blackout]] / Oracle/496: Allow me to explain what I know of this situation. An accident in the Northern plasma junction has caused the hub to lose its plasma flow. / [[Flash to the park; the Oracle is being beaten down by one of the park-goers, with 9275 upended. The other park-goers look on in various states of awkwardness.]] / Oracle/496: My network is in low-power mode. I/we are limited to critical updates and local ad-hoc communication, of which little has occurred. / Oracle/496: The outage is widespread. Presumably, unbuffered induction-powered technology is now inactive. I am buffered, and my capacitors are charged to 5h36-- ... sorry, to about two decis. / [[Back to the council chamber; the Oracle is barely illuminated by 496's eye-stalks]] / Council member: And what happens after those two decis? / Oracle/496: I lose power. / Oracle/496: Perhaps I die. / Oracle/496: Other than that, I am uncertain.

Remembering [Within the physical fusion chamber; 36 and 53 are installing a new fusion coupler between 10 and 11, while 27 slowly drifts around] / 10: Say, 27, do you mind, you know, helping fix this mess you made? / 27: Can't, I'm stuck orbiting. My jets are still offline. / 11: It's all right, 36 and 53 are almost done installing the new coupler anyway. / [Within the conceptual communication space; the sky is still dark] / 11: Okay, they just finished. 10, get ready to open your intake valve... I'm gonna... / 11: Hm. / 10: What's the problem? / 11: I, uh, can't get my flow going. / 10: Heh, like that first client when we got to the south. / 27 [giggling]: That hystrix?! Jarbreeze, that takes me back. Remember how he tried to p-- / 11: Come on, guys, this is serious. / ... / 11: Although that WAS pretty funny.

A ray of hope Bennett: Oracle, please-- / Jodi [quietly]: Jodi. / Bennett: Pardon? / Jodi [less quietly]: my name is Jodi. / Bennett: Oracle Jodi, Council member Roku is drying out, and I need to know if there's any point to trying to save their life. / Jodi: we're all dead. even zero. / Bennett: Jodi... / Jodi: unity will be a lifeless husk and the universe will forget us. / Bennett [interrupting]: Jodi. / Bennett: Is there ANY chance we might be saved? / Jodi [quietly]: ... / Jodi [quietly]: zero says / Jodi [quietly]: yes. / Bennett: Tchokari, get Roku some salt water. / Jodi [quietly]: but it's very small. / Bennett: Good enough for me.
